Light Rail never sleeps: Filming after dark

Canberra Metro Operations (CMET) is a group of companies that have been contracted by the ACT Government to operate and maintain the Light Rail network for a period of 20 years. This is achieved through strategic partnerships comprising of UGL (CIMIC) and John Holland in partnership with Deutsche Bahn Engineering and Consulting.

To showcase the work completed around the clock to keep rail networks like ours running, a team from CIMIC spent a night filming when the Light Rail service finishes at the end of night. Far from operations completely shutting down, a different part of the network comes to life; with much of the engineering and maintenance work around the network being completed during these hours.

The CIMIC crew followed our operations and maintenance teams; from last service at night to the first LRV out the gates in the morning, our controllers and technicians are hard at work ensuring that vehicles, electrical systems including the overhead wires and our tracks are maintained to the highest standards. It is this work that is often unseen which allows CMET to continue to deliver world-class operations to the Canberra community.

Below are a few behind-the-scenes shots, with the final product to be showcased by CIMIC.
