Get on board: Bikes on the Light Rail

Our CSOs were out and about this week at the Pedal Power ACT Ride2Work breakfast at Veteran’s Park in the city, speaking to cyclists and community members about bikes on the Light Rail.

National Ride2Work Day is Australia’s largest celebration of commuter riding. Held annually in October, the day celebrates the benefits of riding to work and brings together the communities that support it (Source).

Whether you’re commuting to work, having a family day out or simply exploring our beautiful city, consider adding Light Rail to your active travel plans. Bike racks are available opposite every Light Rail stop to secure your bike, or jump on-board with your bike; every LRV is equipped with 4 bikes racks. Taking your bike on board is easy, just enter the LRV through the double doors and secure your bike in one of the racks before finding a seat or somewhere to hold on while you travel.

Safety is always our priority, and cycling around the Light Rail has its own unique risks as rail tracks can be a fall hazard. It’s easy to stay safe with these few simple tips:

Ride directly across the tracks at a right angle to avoid your wheels getting stuck in the groove

Do not ride along the tracks

Always cross the tracks at designated crossings

Never cross in front of a moving LRV, and avoid braking on the rail tracks
