CMET Partners with Local School Captains for Rail Safety Week

In an effort to help amplify the rail safety message, CMET is working with local school captains from nearby schools, to promote Rail Safety Week. Students from Daramalan College, Shirley Smith High School, Gungahlin College, Merici College, and Harrison High School have lent their voices to record special safety public announcement (PA) messages, which will be broadcast at light rail stops throughout the week.

Each school captain’s PA will play at the stop closest to their school, with the aim of appealing to younger passengers.

“We believe that when students hear these safety message from their peers, they are more likely to take notice of the message,” said Bruno Lancelot, CMET General Manager. ” We’re really encouraged to see the enthusiasm and commitment from these young leaders who are helping to spread such an important message.”

The recorded messages cover a range of safety topics, including the importance of standing behind the yellow line, avoiding distractions like mobile phones while near tracks, and the necessity of using designated crossings.

This initiative is part of CMET’s broader commitment to fostering a safe travel environment for all passengers. Rail Safety Week serves as a crucial reminder of the collective responsibility we share in ensuring everyone’s safety on and around the rail network.

Thanks to all the participating schools and captains for their commitment during Rail Safety Week.
