People’s Choice Poster Winner!

As part of this year’s Rail Safety Week awareness campaign, CMET held the People’s Choice Competition, enabling the community to vote via QR code, for their favourite student’s rail safety poster. With 32 creative entries from local school students at Daramalan College, Gungahlin College and Dickson College, the competition received over 1300 votes!

The winning poster, designed by Year 11 student Matthew Huckstepp from Daramalan College, captured the hearts and minds of the Canberra community. Matthew’s design was heavily influenced by his love for rock music and favourite band, ‘AC DC.’

“I took inspiration from AC DC for some of the elements like the guitar and bold fonts, but I wanted it to feel more connected to me personally. After reviewing some of the posters from previous years, I realised that adding my own face into the design would make it stand out and feel more relatable,” shared Matthew.

His approach worked—Matthew’s unique touch not only made the poster more personable but also created a sense of fun that resonated with voters across Canberra. The bold message “The tram will rock and you will roll—hold on” creatively conveys the importance of staying safe when travelling onboard the light rail.

As a reward for his creativity and effort, Matthew received a Visa voucher in recognition of his achievement. He was thrilled to learn that his poster struck a chord with the community, helping to spread an important message about rail safety in a fun and captivating way.
