Canberra’s Light Rail is 6 months old!

For Canberrans now regularly using the Light Rail it might be hard to imagine life without the convenient, turn-up-and-go service, with today marking 6 months of Light Rail operations in the nation’s Capital.

CMET is proud to be delivering a world-class Light Rail service to more than 15,000 travelers everyday, “with patronage at levels not expected until 2021. In the past six months we have recorded over 2.2 million light rail passenger trips,” Minister for Transport Chris Steel said.

Results from a Customer Satisfaction Survey conducted by CMET and released by Minister for Transport Chris Steel MLA, show that Canberrans are not just riding the Light Rail, but are loving their experience on-board; with over 90% of respondents either satisfied or very satisfied with the service.

The survey showed exceptional service in all categories:

  • 92% satisfaction for customer service
  • 94% for punctuality
  • 95% for safety and security, and;
  • 98%  for cleanliness

“The survey found that 45% of those who use the service use it daily, with 72% using it weekly. Around 50% of participants in the survey said they used the service to get to work, school or university.
It is great to see so many people using the light rail, and it is even better that they find it so easy, safe and comfortable,” Minister Steel said.

During our first 6 months of service CMET have been proud to be at the forefront of the changing public transport landscape in Canberra, engaging with community groups, schools and commuters around Light Rail Safety.
