This Harmony Week, CMET is celebrating the diversity that makes our city such a welcoming and vibrant place to live by sharing a series of special announcements across the light rail network.
Throughout Harmony Week, passengers travelling on the light rail may hear a message delivered with a unique twist. The final line of the announcement is spoken in a range of different languages, recorded by members of our workforce and community. These messages will play at all light rail stops across the network, reflecting the many cultures that make up the community we serve.
At CMET, diversity is not just something we celebrate for a week. It is part of who we are. More than half of our workforce 56% identify as culturally or linguistically diverse, bringing a wide range of perspectives, languages and experiences to the light rail network every day.
Harmony Week provides an opportunity to recognise and celebrate these differences while reinforcing an important message: everyone belongs.
A Community Voice
One of the voices passengers will hear during Harmony Week is Sandra, a regular passenger who travels on the light rail most days on her way to work.
Sandra said she was delighted to take part in the initiative.
“I use the light rail nearly every day to get into the city for work, so it feels really special to be part of something like this. Canberra is such a diverse city, and I think hearing different languages across the stops is a lovely reminder of the many cultures that make up our community.”

Eight participants recorded messages for the initiative, each sharing the closing line in their language of choice.
