At CMET, we often talk about how our light rail is about connecting people, but sometimes it also connects families.
Meet Keiran and Tristan, two brothers who both drive light rail vehicles (LRVs) here at CMET. Not only do they share a surname, but they also share a passion for delivering safe, reliable, and friendly service to thousands of Canberrans every day.
Between them, Keiran and Tristan have driven thousands of kilometres along the network, keeping our city moving through all conditions.
Their good-natured rivalry about who is the “better driver” adds a touch of fun to life at the depot. Passenger’s might not realise it, but the LRV they are boarding could be in Keiran’s hands one day and Tristan’s the next.
For Keiran, being an LRV driver is about more than getting people from A to B. “Every shift is different,” he says. “You get to see the city in all its moods, the morning rush, the quiet evenings, even the excitement of big events. And knowing my brother is out there doing the same thing makes it that much more rewarding.”
Tristan agrees, adding: “It’s pretty rare to share a job like this with your brother.”
It’s a great reminder that CMET is not just about vehicles and tracks, it is about our people. From drivers and customer service officers to the teams behind the scenes, it is the dedication of our staff (and sometimes their families) that keeps the network running smoothly.
