CMET is driving sustainability forward with the installation of three new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations within the light rail depot.
Located in the newly built second staff car park, the chargers will make use of the 99kw solar panel array located on the depot building roof. The solar panels have been generating power since 2019 and in 2024 generated a total of 141.1 MhW of green energy. There was a total of 64 Tonnes of CO2 saved in 2024. This initiative not only reduces CMET’s carbon footprint but also supports CMET employees who have embraced electric vehicles or may choose to do so in the future.
Two CMET employees who own EVs, Michael and Matthew have already been making the most of the new charging facilities.
“It’s fantastic to have access to EV charging at work. It makes owning an electric vehicle even more convenient and aligns with CMET’s sustainability goals,” said Michael.
Matthew added, “Knowing that the chargers are linked to the depot solar panels is a great feeling. It really reinforces the push towards cleaner transport solutions.”
CMET is committed to supporting a cleaner and greener Canberra aligned with the Territory goal of transitioning away from the use of fossil fuel energy.
