CMET and Transport Canberra Join Hands to Donate Unclaimed Bikes to the Bicycle Library.

CMET and Transport Canberra have announced their collaboration with the Bicycle Library, a Northside community-run initiative offering free short and long term loans on bikes.

By donating any unclaimed bikes received in lost property, CMET and Transport Canberra will help to expand the loan program and support even more people in the community, who might rely on this mode of transport.

The Bicycle Library is a unique initiative operating just like a regular library, providing free access to second-hand bicycles, helmets and locks for kids or adults. Reconditioned, preloved bicycles are donated to the library and refurbished by volunteer bike mechanics who work in the shed a few times a week and are then made available to community members upon request. Loans are available for up to six months with extensions available upon request.

As well as facilitating access to bikes, the Bike Library run extremely popular ‘Fix n Ride’ and ‘Learn to Ride ‘sessions, which empowers community members to learn new skills, feel safe and in control while riding or fixing their own bikes.

CMET & Transport Canberra are proud to support the Bicycle Library and their efforts in promoting sustainable transportation and active travel in Canberra.
