1-year of light rail in Canberra

Monday 20 April marked 1-year of light rail services here in Canberra and we have marked the occasion by taking a look back on our first year.

Stage 1 of the Light Rail network is the largest infrastructure project ever undertaken here in Canberra and we recognised many milestones over the course of the project, from the beginning of construction on 12 July 2016 to 20 April 2019 when 25,000 Canberrans came out to celebrate the first official day of light rail.

While no celebration marked the 1-year anniversary of services due to COVID-19 restrictions, CMET has proudly presented all of our 100 staff members with a commemorative pin to mark the occasion and have recognized some of the great opportunities that our team have had over the past year to connect with the Canberra community. From sketch artists to reuniting lost pets with their owners, and from school group tours to our brilliant safety posters and voice of light rail campaigns, CMET is a proud member of the Canberra community. We thank all of our customers for making our first year of operations successful, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with our community for many years to come.

Check out our 1-year anniversary video on our Facebook page for more highlights of our first year.
